APPIMAF and the Egyptian Association for the Protection of Industrial Property (AEPPI) held a regional symposium titled “Promoting Innovations through Intellectual Property Rights and its Impact in Achieving Economic Growth in the Arab Region”. The symposium took place in Cairo on December 13 and 14, 2009, in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property (AIPPI).
The symposium addressed many issues of particular interest to the private sector, IP practitioners and the public in general such as how does intellectual property serve entrepreneurship and the small and medium sized enterprises. The symposium discussed the role of IP and successful technology licensing for SMEs. It also addressed the importance of IP in promoting innovation within universities, research centers and public scientific institutions providing answers to the topic of why research and development are not progressing in the Arab World.
The symposium hosted eminent international speakers representing the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), Government officials; local & regional speakers from the business community and the pharmaceutical industry in particular.
